Marioras Michalis

Associate Professor, History of Religions National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

Michalis Marioras was born in Athens and attended circular studies at the Ionideios Experimental School. He studied at the Department of Social Theology (NKUA) at the Universities of Freiburg and Geneva Switzerland, Marburg Germany and Theology Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

In 2008, he was elected Lecturer in the History of Religions at the Department of Theology, NKUA, in 2016 Assistant Professor and in 2020 Associate Professor in the same Department, where he serves to this day teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses independently.

He has taught and is teaching: in the “International Medicine-Health Crisis Management” master’s degree of the School of Medicine-NKUA, in the Interdepartmental master’s degree of the Departments of Economic Sciences and Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology-EKPA entitled “Philosophy and Management”, in the Interuniversity and Interdepartmental master’s degree of Departments of Philology of the University of Peloponnese and Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology- NKUA under the title “Ethical Philosophy”, in E-learning “Training in animating and empowering groups & Pedagogy and Teaching Methodology of Religious Education: Teaching Theology and Religion in Primary and Secondary Education”, in the educational programs of the Foundation for Pastoral Training, in the School of Aviation Administration and Staff.

During the period 2009-2011 he was a Special Adviser to the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, in matters of his knowledge, such as the mosque/Islamic cemetery of Athens, the Muslim minority of Thrace, immigration, inter-religious dialogue, integration of refugees/immigrants, confronting racism and xenophobia with education, marginalizing the fanatic speech/ anachronistic expressions, developing interfaith skills.

Official guest: 2012 of the United States Department of State at the International Visitor Leadership Program on “Integration of Migrant Muslim Youth for Greece: Challenges and Prospects”.

His books have been published: Islamic Radicalism: Historical and Theological Prerequisites of Jihad, Islam: Finding Ways with Muslims, The Pre-Islamic Religions of the Arabian Peninsula: the Expected and the Unexpected, On the Paths of Islam: Muslim Approaches, The West-Muslim Dialogue Islamology for the Sharī’a, vol.: A΄, B΄.

He writes for the daily press.
