Michalis Athanassios

Associate Professor, Deaprtment of Educational Studies

Athanasios Michalis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Secondary Education at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). His field of expertise focuses on “The Theory and Practice of Language Teaching in Education.”

His main research interests include the methodology of teaching Modern Greek in secondary education, the development of social, functional, and critical literacy practices, as well as the use of digital technologies in language teaching. At the same time, she focuses on the analysis of language-education discourse, the handling of language errors, and the textual dimension of grammar.

She has participated in major research and educational programs, such as the integration and education of Roma children, repatriated students, and foreign students, as well as in teacher training programs on digital technologies.

Teaching and Publications

At the undergraduate and graduate levels, she teaches courses on the methodology of Modern Greek as a first, second, or foreign language, bilingual education, and written composition. She has an extensive body of work, including studies, books (such as Language Teaching and Literacy Practices in Secondary Education), and articles in reputable academic journals and edited volumes
